If you\u2019re feeling like you didn\u2019t get the break you were hoping for over the summer, you\u2019re not alone. There\u2019s been a lot to contend with, on many fronts. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As we go forward into the fall, we\u2019d like to invite you to participate in several virtual events that we\u2019re excited to share with you. They might even cheer you up (or cheer you on).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What if the wind doesn\u2019t blow!?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

No doubt, this is a question you\u2019ve either asked\u2014or been asked\u2014whenever the subject of transitioning to clean renewable energy comes up. The question poses a real challenge if you don\u2019t know the answer, especially when you\u2019re up against big power utilities and the fossil fuel industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Join us and our co-hosts for an illuminating conversation with Stanford University professor Mark Jacobson, co-author of numerous reports on how to get to 100 percent clean and renewable energy using wind, water, and sunlight. As Jacobson explains, this is not some idealistic or futuristic undertaking\u2014we have the technology already.<\/p>\n\n\n

Webinar Series: 100% Clean Renewables? Absolutely!<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

In this three-part webinar series, Maggie Bunbury will discuss Atlantic Canada\u2019s electricity landscape and what each province is doing\u2014or not doing\u2014to transition away from fossil fuels. Spoiler alert: the province\u2019s energy roadmaps, led by the big power utilities, are full of costly, winding roads and dead ends.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But there is hope.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is a lot that Atlantic Canada can do to not only reach \u201cnet-zero\u201d but \u201cabsolute zero\u201d long before 2050. Absolute zero is a term we at Sierra Club Canada are using to categorize an electricity grid that is powered by 100% renewable, non-emitting sources of electricity. That means provinces don\u2019t get to drill oil and then plant trees in order to call it \u201cnet-zero.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

R\u00e9pondre \u00e0 cette question constitue un v\u00e9ritable d\u00e9fi quand on ne conna\u00eet pas la r\u00e9ponse, et surtout lorsqu’on s’oppose aux grandes compagnies publiques d\u2019\u00e9lectricit\u00e9 et \u00e0 l\u2019industrie des combustibles fossiles. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dans cette s\u00e9rie de trois webinaires, Maggie Bunbury brossera un portrait de l’\u00e9nergie \u00e9lectrique au Canada atlantique et pr\u00e9sentera ce que chaque province fait, ou ne fait pas, pour r\u00e9duire sa d\u00e9pendance aux combustibles fossiles. Avertissement : les feuilles de route \u00e9nerg\u00e9tiques des provinces, \u00e9labor\u00e9es par les grandes entreprises d\u2019\u00e9lectricit\u00e9 publiques, comprennent de nombreux chemins sinueux, co\u00fbteux et sans issue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mais il y a de l’espoir.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Les provinces atlantiques peuvent agir d\u00e8s maintenant pour atteindre non seulement le \u00ab z\u00e9ro net \u00bb, mais aussi le \u00ab z\u00e9ro absolu \u00bb bien avant 2050. Le z\u00e9ro absolu est un terme que nous employons au Sierra Club Canada pour d\u00e9signer un r\u00e9seau \u00e9lectrique aliment\u00e9 par des sources d’\u00e9lectricit\u00e9 100 % renouvelables et non \u00e9mettrices. Cela signifie que les provinces ne peuvent pas forer des puits de p\u00e9trole, planter des arbres par la suite, et parler d\u2019un impact \u00ab net-z\u00e9ro \u00bb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
